M&A Comps

M&A Comps
PitchBook Data
Comparing Mergers and Acquisitions across a set of comparable companies (M&A Comps) is important to anyone doing company valuations. There are 2 high level requirements when doing this analysis,
1. Identifying similar / relevant deals
2. Assessing & summarizing deal multiples from these transactions
Below I walk you through my process in creating a new tab addressing both needs. Users are now able to quickly discover relevant deals while at the same time viewing summary statistics and trends. I was the product designer for this feature working with 1 PM and 3 Engineers. The feature was released in June 2020 to a great customer response.

The Process
For this project a lot of the initial research had already been done and it was up to me to discover where we were coming up short and tweak our user interviews to gain access to the real problem.

Design Requirements
Through user research and competitive analysis I developed the following requirements. These are areas where we could improve upon and win against our competitors.
1. User must be able to grasp overall trend quickly and efficiently
2. User must have the ability to manipulate and edit search criteria and data shown
3. User must have transparency into data points and why they appear
4. User must end with usable takeaway for pitch decks and further analysis

Release
This feature was released June 2020. We have already heard positive customer feedback and seen positive trends in increased monthly active users and return users usage data. This project was a great challenge for me in implementing new patterns that can be used not only in this feature but across the PitchBook platform.
